What Happened
The bolt that connects the part that turns your wheels to the steering gear in your Audi Q8 or Q7 is the part that could be the problem. This bolt might come loose over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If it does come loose, you could lose control of your steering wheel while driving, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will check the steering shaft bolt and replace it for free if it's loose. You should schedule the inspection and repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2019 Audi Q8 and 2017-2019 Audi Q7 vehicles. The bolt connecting the steering shaft to the steering gear may loosen, possibly resulting in a loss of steering control.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A sudden loss of loss of steering control may increase the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and Audi dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering shaft bolt, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 31, 2020. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 36A1.

What Happened
The electric power steering assist system in your Audi Q7 is a computer that helps your steering. In some 2017 models made between November 11, 2015, and November 23, 2015, this computer could fail, causing your power steering to shut off.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you'll need to use extra force to steer your vehicle, especially at low speeds. This could make it harder to control your vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will replace the steering rack with a new one to prevent the problem, and it will be done at no cost to you.

Original — What Happened
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2017 Audi Q7 vehicles manufactured November 11, 2015, to November 23, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the electric power steering assist control unit may short circuit resulting in a loss of power steering assist.

With a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
