What Happened
The vapor tube hose clamp in your vehicle is a small part that helps prevent fuel leaks near the fuel tank. In some cases, it's not installed correctly, which could let fuel escape.
Risk if Unfixed
If fuel leaks out and gets too close to an ignition source, it could catch fire, putting you and others at risk of serious injury.

Original — What Happened
DURING AN INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY (IIHS) OFFSET FRONTAL BARRIER IMPACT TEST, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT FUEL TAN DAMAGE COULD OCCUR. ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, A VAPOR TUBE HOSE CLAMP THAT IS LOCATED NEAR THE FUEL TANK MAY NOT BE POSITIONED PROPERLY AND COULD CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE MAY RESULT IN A FIRE.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE POSITION OF THE VAPOR TUBE HOSE CLAMP EARS AND CORRECTLY POSITION THE CLAMP, IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI DE PUERTO RICO AT 1-800-981-0188.

What Happened
The vapor tube hose clamp in your vehicle helps connect the fuel tank to other fuel system parts. In certain models, the clamp's position can be misaligned, increasing the risk of a crash.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash, the misaligned clamp could puncture your fuel tank, causing fuel to leak. If the fuel comes into contact with an ignition source, it could catch fire.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will check the clamp's position and adjust it if necessary, completely free of charge. You'll get a notification letter on May 24, 2004, and you should contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 to schedule the inspection.

THE VAPOR TUBE HOSE CLAMP EAR WAS FOUND TO BE MISPOSITIONED AND FACING TOWARD THE FUEL TANK.
