What Happened
Your vehicle's anti-lock brake system (ABS) is like a computer that helps you stop safely. The ABS module is a critical part of this system, but in some 2010-2015 Hyundai models, it can leak brake fluid and cause an electrical short.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, it could cause an engine compartment fire while you're parked or driving. This increases the risk of serious injury from burns or other damage.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will replace the ABS fuse for free. They'll do this as soon as you schedule the repair, and you should park your vehicle in a safe location away from any buildings until the repair is complete.

The brake pedal stopper pad is a small part that helps keep your brake lights from staying on when you're not pressing the brake pedal. In some 2013-2014 Elantras, this pad can break down and cause problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake light switch plunger doesn't work right, your brake lights might stay on, making it harder for other drivers to know you're slowing down. It could also let you shift the transmission out of PARK without pressing the brake pedal, which could cause a crash.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will replace the faulty brake pedal stopper pad at no cost to you. Just schedule the repair when you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Elantra sedan, coupe and GT vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. This will allow the brake lights to remain illuminated continuously. It can also allow the shift lever to be moved without depressing the brake pedal, or activate the engine management brake pedal override feature.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of PARK without depressing the brake pedal. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 8, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 170. This campaign expands recall 16V574.
The brake light switch in your 2013 Elantra is a small part that helps turn on your brake lights when you press the pedal and turns them off when you release it. In some cases, this switch can get stuck, causing the lights to stay on even when you're not pressing the brake.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake light switch stays stuck on, it means other drivers behind you won't get the signal that you're slowing down or stopping. This could lead to a collision. Additionally, if the switch gets stuck, you might be able to shift out of park without pressing the brake pedal, which is a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will replace the brake pedal stopper pad with a new one, free of charge. This fix is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.
