ENGINE

Manufacturer
Hyundai Motor America
What Happened
The piston oil rings in your engine are like a thin, heat-resistant seal between your engine's moving parts. Unfortunately, in some 2019-2021 Elantra, Kona, and Veloster models with 2.0L engines, these rings weren't properly heat-treated, which could lead to engine damage.
Risk if Unfixed
If your engine suffers damage, it could shut off while you're driving, making it harder to control your vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Oil might also leak onto hot exhaust parts, which could cause a fire.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will inspect your engine and replace it if necessary – at no cost to you. They'll also install an advanced software update to help detect any future issues. Schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.
