What Happened
The vapor tube hose clamp in your vehicle is a small part that helps prevent fuel leaks near the fuel tank. In some cases, it's not installed correctly, which could let fuel escape.
Risk if Unfixed
If fuel leaks out and gets too close to an ignition source, it could catch fire, putting you and others at risk of serious injury.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will check the clamp's position and adjust it if it's not right, all at no cost to you. Don't wait - schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

What Happened
The vapor tube hose clamp in your vehicle helps connect the fuel tank to other fuel system parts. In certain models, the clamp's position can be misaligned, increasing the risk of a crash.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash, the misaligned clamp could puncture your fuel tank, causing fuel to leak. If the fuel comes into contact with an ignition source, it could catch fire.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will check the clamp's position and adjust it if necessary, completely free of charge. You'll get a notification letter on May 24, 2004, and you should contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 to schedule the inspection.

Original — What Happened
DURING AN INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY (IIHS) OFFSET FRONTAL BARRIER IMPACT TEST ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, FUEL SPILLAGE OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF FUEL TANK DAMAGE CAUSED BY CONTACT BETWEEN A VAPOR TUBE HOSE CLAMP EAR AND THE FUEL TANK. THE VAPOR TUBE HOSE CLAMP EAR WAS FOUND TO BE MISPOSITIONED AND FACING TOWARD THE FUEL TANK.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE COULD CAUSE THE MISPOSITIONED CLAMP TO PUNCTURE THE FUEL TANK CAUSING FUEL LEAKAGE. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Your vehicle has a special sensor in the right front seat that helps decide whether to inflate the airbags. But in some cases, it might think a child seat is an adult, which could lead to the airbags deploying too aggressively in a crash.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, the airbags could hit you harder than they should, increasing the risk of injury to the person in the right front seat, especially a child.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will update the computer system in your vehicle to fix this issue, and the repair is completely free of charge. They'll do the update to ensure your airbags deploy safely in case of a crash.

Original — What Happened
CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN ADVANCED AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) INSTALLED IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT OF THE VEHICLE MAY MISCLASSIFY A CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT (CRS) AS AN ADULT. THIS MAY OCCUR IF THE CRS IS INSTALLED AFTER AN ADULT HAS BEEN SEATED IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT. IF THERE HAS NOT BEEN A 'KEY ON' ' KEY OFF' CYCLE WITH THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT EMPTY PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THE CRS.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THE POSSIBILITY OF MISCLASSIFICATION OF A CRS AS AN ADULT MAY ALLOW THE RIGHT FRONT AIRBAG OR SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG TO DEPLOY IN A CRASH AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO THE RIGHT FRONT OCCUPANT.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE VEHICLE'S OCS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) TO REMOVE THE FEATURE THAT MAY CAUSE THE CRS TO BE RECOGNIZED AS AN ADULT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 15, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI OF PUERTO RICO AT 1-800-981-0188.
The airbag system in your vehicle has a sensor that detects if the person in the right front seat is an adult or a child. In some cases, this sensor might get confused if a child restraint seat (like a car seat) is installed after an adult has sat in that seat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the sensor gets confused, the airbag might deploy in a crash, which could hurt the person sitting in the right front seat. This is a serious safety issue that could lead to injury.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will update the airbag system's computer to fix the issue, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.

The passenger airbag in your vehicle is designed to inflate in case of a crash to protect the person sitting in the passenger seat. But in certain situations, the airbag may not deploy if the person's weight or position is misinterpreted by the sensor, which is connected to the seat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag doesn't deploy in a crash, you could be at serious risk of injury, possibly severe, on the right side of your body.
Free Fix
Your dealer will reprogram the occupant classification sensor to ensure it accurately detects the passenger's presence and weight, so the airbag will deploy as designed when needed. This fix is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, IF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS UNOCCUPIED OR IS OCCUPIED BY SOMEONE LIGHTER THAN 56.4 POUNDS, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS DEACTIVATED AND WILL NOT DEPLOY IF A CRASH OCCURS. HOWEVER, THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR MAY INCORRECTLY INTERPRET THAT A SEATED ADULT IS AN INFANT SEAT AND DEACTIVATE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IF SOMEONE HEAVIER THAN 56.4 POUNDS WHO IS SEATED WITH ONE LEG RESTING ON THE OUTBOARD OR INBOARD EDGE OF THE SEAT; WITH LEGS SPREAD; OR POSITIONED OFF-CENTER TOWARD THE CENTER CONSOLE AND WITH HIS OR HER ARM LEANING ON THE CONSOLE.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY TO THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER.
Original — Remedy
THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR WILL BE REPROGRAMMED.
