ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Safety Recalls

Component

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT:IMMOBILIZER/PROXIMITY:KEY/SENDER

Manufacturer
Nissan North America, Inc.
What Happened
The jackknife key in your Rogue or Rogue Sport is a special key that folds up to prevent it from getting lost. However, this design can sometimes cause the key to collapse while you're driving.
Risk if Unfixed
If the key folds in while you're driving, it could accidentally turn off your engine, which could cause a crash. If that happens, your airbags might not deploy as they should in a crash, which could increase the risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will install a small spacer in the key slot to prevent this issue, and the repair is free. You should schedule this fix as soon as you get the recall notice, which will be mailed to you by August 30, 2023.

Original — What Happened
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:INTERIOR/UNDER DASH

Manufacturer
Nissan North America, Inc.
What Happened
The electrical wiring under the dash in your Rogue is a network of cables that control various functions like your windows and all-wheel drive. Water and salt from the driver's side foot well can sneak in and damage the wire connectors.
Risk if Unfixed
If the connectors corrode, you could experience issues like stuck windows, a warning light on your dashboard, and even a dead battery. In the worst-case scenario, the electrical system could fail, causing a fire.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will inspect and replace the damaged connectors, and apply a protective coating to prevent future corrosion – all for free. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
