Component
STRUCTURE:BODY:TRUNK LID
Manufacturer
VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC
What Happened
The trunk lid on your vehicle has an electric motor and gas struts that help you open and close it. The motor can close the lid quickly if it thinks you're manually shutting it, but this can happen unexpectedly.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, the trunk lid could slam shut rapidly and cause injury. This is a serious issue that could lead to cuts or bruises from the lid closing too quickly.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will update the software that controls the trunk lid at no cost to you. This will prevent the sudden closure and keep you safe.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE AUTOMATIC REAR LID INCLUDES AN ELECTRIC MOTOR AND CLUTCH THAT WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH TWO GAS STRUTS TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE REAR LID, INCLUDING A MANUAL CLOSE FUNCTION. IF ONE OF THE STRUTS HAS A TOTAL LOSS OF PRESSURE, THE RESULTANT SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE REAR LID IS INTERPRETED BY THE SOFTWARE AS AN INTENDED MANUAL CLOSE AND THE MOTOR CLUTCH RELEASES TO CLOSE THE REAR LID IMMEDIATELY.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THIS CAN RESULT IN AN UNINTENDED RAPID CLOSING OF THE REAR LID WITH A RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.
