POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
Manufacturer
Ford Motor Company
What Happened
The gear position indicator in your vehicle is connected to the transmission by a bushing. Over time, this bushing can degrade or break, disconnecting the shifter from the transmission.
Risk if Unfixed
If the bushing fails, your vehicle might shift into the wrong gear or not shift at all, which could cause it to move unexpectedly. This could lead to a crash or serious injury, especially if the vehicle rolls out of park.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will replace the bushing and add a protective cover to prevent further damage – all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice, and parts will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
