EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH

Manufacturer
Nissan North America, Inc.
What Happened
The brake light switch in your Pathfinder is a small switch that helps control your brake lights. In some 2013-2015 models, this switch can get stuck, causing your brake lights to stay on even when you're not pressing the brake pedal.
Risk if Unfixed
If your brake lights are on all the time, other drivers might think you're slowing down when you're not. This could lead to a crash. Additionally, if the switch malfunctions, you might not be able to shift your car out of park without pressing the brake pedal, and you could accidentally roll away.
Free Fix
Nissan will fix your Pathfinder for free. They'll either re-install the brake light switch or swap it with a different switch, and replace the brake light relay. Just schedule an appointment with your Nissan dealer when you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles. The location of the brake light switch may cause the brake light switch relay to repeatedly open and close. Overtime, this can cause the relay to stick in the "ON" position, with the brake lights remaining illuminated even when the brakes are not applied. Additionally, this may interfere with the brake-shift interlock, allowing the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "Park" position, without depressing the brake pedal.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Continual illumination of the brake lights can prevent other drivers from realizing the vehicle is actually slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash. With the brake override activated, the driver will not be able to accelerate normally, increasing the risk of a crash. The driver can shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, allowing the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, either re-install the brake light switch or swap positions with the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) switch; depending on the model year vehicle. In addition, the brake light relay will be replaced with a new one. All repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall PC786. Note: this recall supersedes 16V-380.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH

Manufacturer
Nissan North America, Inc.
What Happened
The brake light switch in your Pathfinder is a critical part that helps your brakes work properly. In some 2013-2014 models, it was installed incorrectly, causing the brake lights to stay on even when you're not pressing the brake pedal.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake override is triggered, you won't be able to accelerate normally, which could lead to a crash. Other drivers may also misjudge when you're stopping, which could cause a collision. If you shift out of park without pressing the brake, your vehicle could roll away, putting you or others at risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will inspect the brake light switch and replace the relay if needed, at no cost to you. You'll be notified when it's time for the repair, and you should schedule it as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.

Original — What Happened
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Pathfinder vehicles manufactured June 20, 2012, to June 13, 2013. The brake light switch may have been installed incorrectly causing the relay to make intermittent contact and repeatedly cycle. Additionally, the brake light switch may interfere with the brake-shift interlock, allowing the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "Park" position, without depressing the brake pedal.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
If the brake override is activated, the driver will not be accelerate normally, increasing the risk of a crash. If the brake lights remain illuminated, other drivers may fail to stop when the vehicle actually brakes, increasing the risk of a crash. If the driver inadvertently shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, the vehicle may rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake light switch and, as necessary, replace the relay, free of charge. The recall began on July 25, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:COOLING UNIT AND LINES

Manufacturer
Nissan North America, Inc.
What Happened
The internal oil cooler hose in your Pathfinder is a small tube that helps keep your CVT transmission running smoothly. In some 2013 models made between April 18 and October 3, 2012, this hose might not be attached properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the hose comes loose, transmission fluid will leak out, and your transmission could fail to shift properly. This might cause your vehicle to lose power and stop accelerating, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will install a new oil hose repair kit, free of charge, to ensure your transmission stays safe and reliable. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

The ABS system in your vehicle is like a computer that helps your brakes stop smoothly. In some 2013-2014 Nissan Pathfinders, Infiniti JX35s, and Infiniti QX60s, the ABS software can make your brakes take a bit longer to stop on rough roads.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, it could take you a bit longer to stop your vehicle, especially on bumpy roads. This might increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will update the ABS software to improve stopping power, and this repair is completely free. You'll get a notification, and you should schedule the fix as soon as possible.

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION

Manufacturer
Nissan North America, Inc.
What Happened
The Occupant Classification System (OCS) in your vehicle is a sensor that helps decide whether to turn on the passenger airbag. In some 2013-2017 models, this system might not work correctly, thinking a grown-up is a kid or the seat is empty when someone is actually sitting there.
Risk if Unfixed
If the passenger airbag doesn't deploy in a crash because of this problem, you or the passenger could be more likely to get hurt.
Free Fix
Your dealership will update the system's computer and replace the faulty sensor, all for free. You'll get a follow-up notice when the parts are ready, and you can contact Nissan (1-800-867-7669), Infiniti (1-888-833-3216), or Chevrolet (1-800-222-1020) if you have any questions.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Manufacturer
Nissan North America, Inc.
What Happened
The occupant classification system (OCS) is a computer that helps decide whether your passenger airbag should deploy in an accident. Unfortunately, some of these computers were installed incorrectly in certain 2013-2015 vehicles.
Risk if Unfixed
If the OCS thinks no one is in the passenger seat when someone is, the airbag won't deploy. This could lead to serious injury to the passenger if they're not wearing a seatbelt or are not properly restrained.
Free Fix
Nissan will update the OCS software for free to ensure the passenger airbag deploys correctly when it should. You'll get a notice when the repair is ready, and it'll be done at no cost to you.

Risk if Unfixed
If you're in an accident and the passenger airbag is supposed to deploy, but it's been suppressed by a faulty sensor, you could be at a higher risk of injury.
Free Fix
Nissan will contact you to schedule a free inspection of your ODS sensors at your local dealership. If the sensors are faulty, they'll be replaced at no cost to you.

Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag doesn't deploy when it should, you or a passenger could get hurt in a crash. This is because the airbag helps cushion the impact and reduce the force of the collision.
