Component
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:BELTS AND ASSOCIATED PULLEYS
Manufacturer
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
What Happened
The drive belt in your vehicle is a flexible strap that connects your engine to various accessories like your alternator and power steering pump. In certain 2009-2012 Mitsubishi models, the part that keeps the belt tight can crack, causing the belt to come loose.
Risk if Unfixed
If the belt comes off, your engine will stall, and you'll lose power steering and other essential systems. This could make it hard to control your vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will replace the faulty belt tensioner with a new one designed to prevent cracking, and it will be done at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair when you receive the recall notice.
