ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:BELTS AND ASSOCIATED PULLEYS

Manufacturer
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
What Happened
The drive belt tensioner in your vehicle is a critical component that keeps the serpentine belt in place. In certain models, this tensioner's flange can crack, causing the belt to break loose.
Risk if Unfixed
If the belt detaches, your engine will suddenly stall while you're driving, and your vehicle will lose power. This could make it hard to control your vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will replace the faulty tensioner with a redesigned one that's less likely to crack, at no cost to you. You'll get a notification letter with instructions on how to schedule the repair.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

Manufacturer
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
What Happened
The power steering system in your Outlander is like a hydraulic arm that helps you steer. It's connected to the transmission by a tube that carries a special fluid. In some 2013 models and some older models that got a new transmission, this tube isn't properly secured, which could cause it to rub against the transmission.
Risk if Unfixed
If the power steering fluid leaks out, you'll lose the assistance that helps you steer. This could make it harder to control your vehicle, especially at low speeds, and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will replace the leak-prone power steering tube and return tube with new ones, at no cost to you. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2013 Outlander vehicles equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, Mitusbishi is recalling certain 2007-2012 Outlander vehicles that received replacement 6-speed automatic transmissions during servicing. The transmissions in these vehicles have insufficient clearance between the power steering pressure tube and the converter housing of the automatic transmission. As a result of the contact, the power steering pressure tube may develop a hole and leak power steering fluid.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A power steering fluid leak could result in a loss of steering assistance, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the power steering pressure tube and return tube, free of charge. The recall began in August 2014. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-006.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM

Manufacturer
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
What Happened
Your vehicle's front lower control arm is a metal rod that helps keep your car stable and on the road. In some 2002-2013 Mitsubishi models, especially those driven in areas with lots of road salt, this rod can corrode and break off.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you could lose control of your vehicle, which could lead to a crash. This is a serious safety risk, especially on slippery roads.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will inspect the control arm and apply a special coating to protect it from corrosion, or replace it entirely if it's too damaged. This service is completely free, and you'll be notified when to bring your vehicle in.

VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:LINKAGES

Manufacturer
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
What Happened
The wiper linkages in your Outlander are the parts that connect your windshield wipers to the wiper motor. Over time, water can seep into the areas around these linkages and cause them to corrode.
Risk if Unfixed
If the corrosion is bad enough, the wiper linkages could break, leaving you without wipers when you need them most. This could reduce your visibility in the rain and snow, making it harder to see the road ahead and increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will inspect and repair the wiper linkages for free. They'll replace the rubber boot on the ball joint to keep water out and check the wiper motor crank arm for any extra play, replacing it if needed. This repair will be done at no cost to you.

Original — Risk if Unfixed
Loss of wiper function can reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rubber boot on the ball joint to prevent water intrusion.
