SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM

Manufacturer
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
What Happened
The front control arm in your vehicle is a crucial part that helps your car stay stable while driving. In certain models, it can corrode and break apart if exposed to salt water, like from using road salt in winter.
Risk if Unfixed
If the control arm fails, you could lose control of your vehicle, especially on slippery roads, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will inspect the front cross member and apply a special coating to protect it from corrosion, or replace it with a new one if necessary. This repair is completely free, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2002-2007 Lancer, 2004 Lancer Wagon, 2003-2006 Lancer Evolution, 2003-2006 Outlander and 2007-2013 Outlander V-6 vehicles originally sold in, or ever registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, the front lower control arms may detach due to the front cross member corroding from salt water exposure such as from road salt use.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A detached front control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front cross members. Depending on the level of existing corrosion, either a sealing/anti-corrosion agent will be applied or the front cross member will be replaced with a new one that has a sealing/anti-corrosion agent applied to it. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began January 2017. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-16-003.

Risk if Unfixed
If this happens during bad weather and you're driving fast, it could make it hard for you to see, which might lead to an accident.
Free Fix

What Happened
The removable airbag warning labels in your vehicle don't meet the required size standards for safety. These labels are on your dash and sunvisor, and they're supposed to warn you about airbag deployment.

If your airbag deploys, the current labels might not provide clear instructions on what to do. This doesn't meet the safety standards, but it doesn't necessarily mean the airbag will malfunction.
Free Fix
Mitsubishi Caribbean will mail you a notification with a new label design and instructions, and they'll also send you replacement labels for your sunvisors. This is a free service, and you should contact them at 1-787-251-8715 to learn more.
