What Happened
The gear position indicator in your Jeep is like a digital display that tells you which gear you're in. In some 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Wagoneers, a software glitch can cause this display to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the gear position indicator doesn't work, you might shift into park or neutral without realizing it, and the vehicle could move or roll away. This increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Jeep dealer will update the shifter module software to fix the issue, and it's on the house – completely free. You should schedule the repair when you get your recall notice, which is expected to arrive on August 21, 2026.

Original — What Happened
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2023 Jeep Wagoneer, 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and Jeep Wagoneer L vehicles. A software error may cause the transmission gear selection indicator not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 102, "Transmission shift lever sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect."

Dealers will update the shifter module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 21, 2026. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 30D. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning July 9, 2026.
