Component
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The fuel tank in your vehicle is made of two halves that are welded together. In some 2020-2021 Z4 and Toyota Supra models, the weld between these halves might not be strong enough, which could cause it to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the weld fails, fuel could leak out of the tank, and if there's an ignition source nearby, it could catch fire.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the fuel tank with a new one that's designed to be safer, and it will be done at no cost to you.
