Component
ENGINE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The engine control system in your vehicle is the brain that helps manage the engine's performance. In some 2020-2021 models, this system might not work properly during engine start, causing loss of braking assist.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your vehicle's electronic braking system could fail, making it harder to stop quickly, which increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the engine control system's software, which is free of charge. You should schedule this update as soon as possible.
