Component

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The transmission control unit in your vehicle is a critical part that helps your automatic transmission shift gears smoothly. In some 2023 BMW models, the cover of this unit might not have been sealed properly, allowing transmission oil to leak in.
Risk if Unfixed
If transmission oil gets into the control unit, it could cause the transmission gears to seize, leading to sudden loss of power and control. This could make it hard to steer and brake, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the transmission control unit and refill the transmission fluid at no cost to you. You should schedule this repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software for the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) at no cost to you. They'll also temporarily disable the digital key function until the update is complete.
