What Happened
Your vehicle's engine management system is responsible for controlling the performance of your engine. In certain 2020-2021 BMW models, this system could malfunction and disable the electronic braking assist feature.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you'll lose the electronic assistance that helps you stop your vehicle smoothly. You'll still have full mechanical braking available, but it could be more difficult to stop, especially on slippery roads or in emergency situations.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the engine management software to fix the issue, and this repair is completely free. You should schedule the update as soon as you receive the recall notice.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020 M340i, M340i xDrive, 540i, 540i xDrive, X3 M40i, 2020-2021 X4 M40i, 745Le xDrive, 2019-2021 Z4 M40i, and 2020-2021 Toyota Supra vehicles. During engine start, the engine management software may cause loss of braking assist. Full mechanical braking (without assist) remains available.

What Happened
The fuel tank in your Z4 or Supra is the part that stores gasoline. In some 2020-2021 models, the way it's held together might not be strong enough, which could cause it to crack or leak.
Risk if Unfixed
If the fuel tank leaks, it could spill gasoline onto a hot engine or other heat source, causing a fire. This is a serious safety risk, especially if you're driving and can't get out of the vehicle quickly.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the fuel tank with a new one that's designed to be safer, completely free of charge. Just schedule the repair when you receive the recall notice.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Z4 and 2020-2021 Toyota Supra vehicles. The weld between the fuel tank halves may have been insufficiently welded, causing the weld to fail.

The failed weld may allow fuel to leak, increasing the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source.
Original — Remedy

What Happened
The Automatic Locking Retractor in your seat belt is a safety feature that helps keep the webbing tight in a crash. In some 2021 BMW, MINI, and Rolls Royce vehicles, this component might not lock in time, compromising its effectiveness.
Risk if Unfixed
If your seat belt retractor fails to work properly in a crash, the webbing might not stay tight, increasing the risk of serious injury to the passenger.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW, MINI, or Rolls Royce dealer will inspect and replace the seat belt retractor, if needed, at no cost to you. This repair is free, so schedule it with your dealer as soon as you receive the recall notice.
