STEERING Safety Recalls

Critical #12V302000 Plain English
Component

STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM

Manufacturer
BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC
What Happened
The electric power steering system in your vehicle helps make steering easier. However, in some 2011 and 2012 1-Series Active E and Z4 models, the electrical current to this system might fluctuate, causing it to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the power steering fails, you'll need to put more effort into steering the vehicle, which could make it harder to control, especially at high speeds. This increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the steering assistance module with a new one, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice.
