Component
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The passenger side air bag in your vehicle is designed to deploy in a crash to protect you. The air bag in your 2007-2012 X5 or 2008-2012 X6 has a special type of propellant that can break down over time, especially in hot and humid conditions.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag inflator explodes, it could send sharp metal fragments hurtling towards you or other passengers, causing serious injury or even death while you're driving.
Free Fix
Please do not drive your vehicle until you've had the air bag replaced. Your BMW dealer will swap out the faulty air bag for a safe one, at no cost to you. They'll contact you soon to schedule the repair, and you can also reach them at 1-800-525-7417.
