FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The EGR cooler in your diesel engine helps reduce emissions by recirculating exhaust gases. However, in certain 2013-2017 BMW models, this cooler can leak, causing a serious problem.
Risk if Unfixed
If the cooler leaks, coolant and soot mix together, creating smoldering particles that could melt your intake manifold. This increases the risk of a fire while you're driving, which could cause serious damage or even harm you or others.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty EGR cooler and inspect the intake manifold for damage. If it's damaged, they'll replace it too, all at no cost to you. The repair will be done as soon as the remedy becomes available in June 2022, and you'll be notified with a recall letter.
