What Happened
The EGR cooler in your diesel engine helps to reduce emissions by recycling exhaust gases. In some 2013-2018 BMW models, this cooler can leak, mixing coolant with soot from your engine.
Risk if Unfixed
If the EGR cooler leaks, it could cause your intake manifold to melt, leading to a potential fire. This is a serious risk that could happen while you're driving.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty EGR cooler and inspect your intake manifold to make sure it's safe. If necessary, they'll replace the manifold too – all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
