What Happened
The power steering system in your 2008-2009 Volvo has a hose that helps return power steering fluid back to the engine. Unfortunately, a small part of this hose wasn't made correctly and could break apart.
Risk if Unfixed
If the hose ruptures, the power steering fluid will drain quickly, and you'll lose power steering assistance. This makes it harder to steer the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will inspect and swap out the faulty hose with a new one, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.

Original — What Happened
VOLVO IS RECALLING MY 2008-2009 VEHICLES. A SECTION OF THE POWER STEERING RETURN LINE HOSE WAS NOT PROPERLY VULCANIZED (CURED) AND DOES NOT MEET SPECIFICATIONS. IF THE POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE FAILS, A SUDDEN RUPTURE OF THE HOSE CAN OCCUR.

THIS CAN RESULT IN A RAPID DRAINAGE OF THE POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE SYSTEM AND A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ASSISTANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE STEERING RETURN LINE HOSE ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 13, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO AT 1-800-458-1552.
