Component
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
Manufacturer
VOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.
What Happened
The master cylinder in your brake system is like a strong arm that helps you stop the car. In some 2007 Volvo models, a thin layer on the master cylinder could wear out a rubber seal, causing brake fluid to leak inside.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you might need to press the brake pedal harder than usual to stop the car. Over time, this could get worse, making it harder to stop your car safely, and eventually, the brakes could fail altogether, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will inspect and replace the master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir, clean the brake lines, and do it all for free. You should schedule an appointment as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — Risk if Unfixed
THE CAPACITY TO BRAKE WILL GRADUALLY DETERIORATE FORCING THE DRIVER TO USE A HIGHER THAN EXPECTED FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN COMPARED TO AN INTACT BRAKE SYSTEM. THE DETERIORATION CAN EVENTUALLY RESULT IN COMPLETE LOSS OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
