What Happened
The fuel pump in your Volvo is the part that sends gasoline from the tank to your engine. Over time, in hot climates and with varying fuel quality, this pump can develop hairline cracks in its metal flange.
Risk if Unfixed
If the cracks appear, you might smell fuel and see a leak. If there's an ignition source nearby, this could lead to a fire.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will inspect the fuel pump and replace it with a redesigned, safer version – for free. Schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2006 S80 and 2001-2009 S60 vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
