What Happened
The liftgate on your Outlander is held up by gas spring cylinders. In your 2014-2022 Outlander, these cylinders can corrode and lose pressure, causing the liftgate to fall unexpectedly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the gas spring cylinder ruptures or the liftgate falls, you could get hurt from the falling parts or be hit by the liftgate.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will replace the broken gas springs with new ones, at no cost to you. You'll get a notification letter in June 2026, and you should schedule the repair then.
