BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Manufacturer
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)
What Happened
The rearview camera in your Wrangler helps you see behind your vehicle. The wiring harness that connects it to the camera and center brake light might get damaged, stopping the camera image from working and the brake light from lighting up.
Risk if Unfixed
If the rearview camera image doesn't appear, you'll be driving blind, making it harder to spot objects or people behind your vehicle. If the center brake light fails, other drivers won't see your brake lights, increasing the risk of a rear-end crash.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the damaged wiring harness, free of charge, to get your rearview camera and center brake light working properly. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The wiring harness for the rearview camera and the center brake light may short circuit, which can disable the rearview camera image and center brake light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 111, "Rear Visibility" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a center brake light that fails to illuminate can fail to indicate to other drivers that the vehicle is slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Dealers replaced the harness for the center brake light and rearview camera and/or the spare tire carrier/harness assembly, as necessary, free of charge. All vehicles were repaired by January 15, 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed September 26, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 77B.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Manufacturer
Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
What Happened
The rearview camera on your vehicle is important for checking what's behind you when you're reversing. But in certain models, a software glitch can keep the camera image on the screen even after you've shifted out of reverse.
Risk if Unfixed
If the rearview image stays on the screen when you're not reversing, it could distract you while driving and increase your chances of a crash.
Free Fix
Your dealer will update the software in your radio display for free. You can also choose to do it remotely through an Over-The-Air update starting May 1, 2020, if you'd like. Either way, it's a free fix that you should take care of as soon as you get the recall notice.
