What Happened
The ignition switch in your SUV is the part that helps your car start. Water and dirt can get inside this switch and cause a short circuit.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, it could lead to a vehicle fire, which is a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your dealership will replace the ignition switch with a new, improved one at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible and contact DaimlerChrysler if you don't receive the fix in a timely manner.

ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, WATER AND IMPURITIES CAN ENTER INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH, CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT.

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH A REDESIGNED SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 8, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
