What Happened
Your vehicle may have a faulty engine block heater that can crack and leak coolant, causing a short circuit when plugged in.
Risk if Unfixed
If the block heater cracks, it can increase the risk of a fire.
Free Fix
Dealers will replace the block heater for free. In the meantime, please don't plug in your block heater. A notification letter was sent on February 13, 2026, and a final notice will be sent in April 2026 once the fix is ready.

Original — What Happened
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Focus, 2019 Explorer, and 2024 Explorer vehicles. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Original — Remedy
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed February 13, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in April 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25SA4. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026. This recall expands previous recall number 25V685.

What Happened
The engine block heater is a small electric component that helps warm up your engine in cold temperatures. In certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC models with a 2.0L engine, this heater can crack and develop a leak.
Risk if Unfixed
If the engine block heater leaks, it could cause an electrical short circuit while you're plugging it in, which increases the risk of a fire.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will replace the faulty engine block heater for free, so don't plug it in until they've made the repair. You'll also have the option to remove the block heater and electrical cord, and they'll do it all at no cost to you.
