What Happened
Your steering column is the long rod that connects the steering wheel to the front wheels. The universal joint in your 2021 X5 or X6 model might not have been tightened properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the universal joint gets loose, it can make your vehicle harder to control, increasing the risk of a crash, especially when you're driving at high speeds or in sudden turns.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the joint and tighten it if it's loose, or replace it and its parts if necessary – all for free. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice.
