What Happened
The compression springs in your X7's third-row seats help keep the backrest in place. In some cases, these springs weren't installed correctly.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash and the springs fail, the backrest might not lock properly, which could lead to injuries.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the seat springs, replace or reattach any that are loose, and add any missing ones at no cost to you. You'll get a letter with instructions on when to schedule the fix.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 BMW X7 xDrive40i, X7 Drive50i, X7 M50i vehicles with third-row seats. One or more of the compression springs that lock the backrest may not have been installed properly, and could dislodge or detach.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
In a crash, the seat backrest may not fully lock, increasing the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will inspect the third-row seat and, if necessary, remove and reinstall improperly installed compression springs, and reinstall any missing springs, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 4, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What Happened
The head restraints in your second-row seats are meant to protect your head and neck in case of a crash. In some 2021 X5 and X7 models, these restraints are the wrong type for these vehicles.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash and these head restraints aren't working right, they could detach and increase your risk of serious injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the head restraints in your vehicle and replace them if they're not the right type. This service is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.
