What Happened
Your vehicle's headlight is designed to shine white light to illuminate the road ahead. However, in some 2020-2021 BMW models, the headlight could produce a blue light instead, which could confuse other drivers.
Risk if Unfixed
If other drivers see a blue light from your approaching vehicle, they might be confused, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect your headlight and, if needed, replace it with a correct one – at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair when you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020-2021 X5 sDrive40i, xDrive40i, xDrive50i, X5 M50i, X5M, X6 sDrive40i, xDrive40i, X6 M50i, X6M, X7 M50i and 2021 X5 xDrive45e vehicles. The headlamps may allow a blue light to illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Oncoming drivers may be confused by the blue light of approaching vehicles, which could potentially increase the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the headlamps and, if necessary, replace them, free of charge. The recall began October 30, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What Happened
The rear reflex reflectors on your X7 are designed to reflect light back to other drivers when you're reversing or braking. Unfortunately, some 2020 models may not be reflecting enough light.
Risk if Unfixed
If the reflectors aren't working properly, other drivers may not see you as easily, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace both rear reflectors with new ones, free of charge. You'll receive a notification when the repair is ready, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
