What Happened
The steering column shaft bearing plate in your X5 or X6M is a crucial part that helps connect the steering wheel to the front wheels. In some 2019-2020 models, it might not have been attached properly.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2020 X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i and X5 xDrive50i vehicles and 2020 X6M vehicles. The steering column shaft bearing plate may not have been properly attached to the vehicle, allowing it to loosen.

A loose bearing plate can affect the vehicle's handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the steering column shaft bearing plate and properly attach or replace it, as necessary, free of charge.
