What Happened
The software in your electric drive motor is like the brain of your vehicle's propulsion system. In affected 2022-2025 i4, 2022-2024 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2024 I5 models, it could malfunction and shut down the high-voltage system.
Risk if Unfixed
If the software fails, you could lose power to your wheels while driving, which increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the electric drive motor software to prevent this issue, and the repair is free. You'll receive a notification letter on August 5, 2025, and can also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to schedule the update.

What Happened
The high-voltage battery in your BMW is the system that powers your electric drive. In some 2022-2025 iX, 2023-2024 i7, and 2022-2023 i4 models, the battery cells might not have been assembled correctly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the battery module fails, your car could lose power and stall while driving, making it harder to control the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. There's also a chance of a fire breaking out.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty battery cell modules with new ones at no cost to you. You'll get another notice once the repair is ready, likely in early 2026, and you can schedule the fix then.

The high voltage battery combined charging unit (CCU) in your hybrid vehicle manages the flow of electricity between your battery and engine. In some 2022-2023 models, the CCU might not have been built correctly, causing internal connections to be faulty.
Risk if Unfixed
If the CCU fails while you're driving, your engine could stall without warning, leaving you without power. This could increase the risk of a crash, especially if you're in heavy traffic or on a steep hill.
