What Happened
The software in your i4, IX, I7, or I5 controls how the electric motor moves your vehicle. In some 2022-2024 models, this software could shut down the high-voltage system, stopping your car's power.
Risk if Unfixed
If the system shuts down, you'll lose power to your wheels, making it harder to control your vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in your motor for free, either over the air or in-person. This update is a no-cost fix, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2025 i4, 2022-2024 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2024 I5 vehicles. The electric drive motor software may shut down the high-voltage system, causing a loss of drive power.

What Happened
The high-voltage battery in your BMW is a critical component that powers your vehicle. In some 2022-2025 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2022-2023 i4 models, the battery cells might not have been assembled correctly, putting extra stress on the module.
Risk if Unfixed
If the battery module fails, it could shut down the high-voltage system, causing your vehicle to lose power and potentially making it harder to control. This could lead to a crash, and there's also a risk of a fire.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty high-voltage battery cell modules for free. You'll receive two notices: one now, explaining the issue, and another in December 2025 when the repair is ready to be done.

Your iX's cruise control system is designed to help you maintain a set speed, but in certain 2022-2024 models, it could get stuck on without you realizing it.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your car could suddenly speed up on its own while you're turning, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in your vehicle's computer to prevent this issue from happening, and it's completely free. You should schedule the update as soon as you get the recall notice.
