What Happened
The front driver's air bag in your iX or X1 is a crucial safety feature that deploys during a crash. In some 2022-2023 models, this air bag may not work as designed.
Risk if Unfixed
If your air bag doesn't deploy as intended during a crash, you could suffer more severe injuries than you would with a properly functioning air bag.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty air bag with a new one, absolutely free. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2023 iX xDrive40, iX xDrive50, iX M60 and 2022-2023 X1 xDrive28i vehicles. The front driver's air bag may have been manufactured incorrectly and may not deploy as intended during a crash.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A driver's air bag that does not deploy as intended during a crash increases the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will replace the driver's air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 14, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What Happened
The air bag control module is the computer that helps your air bags deploy in a crash. In some 2022-2023 BMW iX models, the software in this module might not alert you if there's a problem.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag warning light doesn't come on when it should, you might not know if your air bags are working properly. This could lead to serious injury in a crash, because the air bags won't deploy when they need to.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the air bag control unit software for free, so you should contact them to schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2023 iX xDrive40, iX XDrive50, and iX M60 vehicles. The air bag malfunction indicator light and display message may not illuminate in the event of a problem with the air bag control or pedestrian protection systems, due to incorrect software.

An air bag malfunction indicator light that fails to warn the driver of a problem increases the risk of injury in a crash.
