Component
STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
Manufacturer
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
What Happened
The electric power steering system in your vehicle is controlled by an electronic unit called the EPS ECU, which helps your steering wheel turn smoothly. However, in some 2014-2015 Rav4s, 2015 Camrys, Camry Hybrids, Highlanders, and Highlander Hybrids, this unit might have been damaged during production.
Risk if Unfixed
If the EPS ECU fails, you could lose power steering while driving, making it harder to control your vehicle. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Toyota dealer will check the serial number of your EPS ECU or steering column assembly and replace it if it's within the affected range – completely free of charge. You'll get a notification from Toyota, and you should schedule the repair as soon as you receive it.
