Moderate #13V289000 Plain English
Component

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Manufacturer
Chrysler Group LLC
What Happened
Your Grand Cherokee's premium headlamps are designed to provide visibility when you're driving or parked. In some 2014 models built between January and March 2013, the headlamps can cause the parking lights to flicker off when you switch between daytime and parking modes.
Risk if Unfixed
If the parking lights go out, your vehicle may be harder to spot by other drivers, especially in low-light conditions. This could increase the risk of a collision.
Free Fix
Your Chrysler dealer will update the computer system that controls your headlamps, making sure they work properly in all modes. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2014, non-SRT trimmed, Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 14, 2013, through March 20, 2013 equipped with premium headlamps. In the affected vehicles, when switching between daytime running lights and parking lights, electrical spikes may cause the parking lamps to turn off. Without properly functioning parking lamps these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Without parking lamps, the vehicle may not be as visible to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Central Body Controller software, free of charge. The recall BEGAN ON September 12, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N42.
