FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Manufacturer
Delphi Automotive Systems, LLC
What Happened
Your vehicle's fuel pump sends a signal to your fuel gauge to show how much gas you have. But in some cases, the pump in your 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey may send a false signal, causing your gauge to say you have more gas than you actually do.
Risk if Unfixed
If your gauge is lying to you, you might think you have more gas than you really do. This could cause your vehicle to run out of fuel while you're driving, which can cause the engine to stall and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Delphi will replace the faulty fuel pump module with a new one at no charge. Your dealer will take care of this repair for you, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
What Happened
The fuel pump strainer cover in your Odyssey is a small metal piece that keeps debris out of the fuel pump. Over time, it can crack and start to leak gasoline.
Risk if Unfixed
A leak in the fuel pump cover can cause gasoline to spill out, which increases the risk of a fire. This is a serious safety issue that could happen while you're driving or parked.
Free Fix
Honda will contact you with an update when the fix is ready. In the meantime, if your vehicle is already leaking, Honda will replace the old cover with a new one. Eventually, they'll install an improved cover that's designed to last longer.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER

Manufacturer
HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
What Happened
The brake master cylinder in your vehicle is a crucial part that helps apply the brakes. The seal at the back of the master cylinder needs a special type of brake fluid to stay healthy.
Risk if Unfixed
If you use the wrong brake fluid, the seal can dry out and slowly leak brake fluid into the brake booster. Over time, this could affect how your brake pedal feels and make your brakes less effective, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Honda dealer will replace the faulty seal in the brake master cylinder for free. You'll get a notification starting in December 2010, and you should schedule the repair as soon as you can.

Original — What Happened
HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2007 ODYSSEY AND ACURA RL VEHICLES. BRAKE FLUID CONTAINING POLYMERS IS USED THAT ACTS AS A LUBRICANT FOR CERTAIN BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS. IF REPLACEMENT BRAKE FLUID IS USED THAT DOES NOT CONTAIN SUCH POLYMERS, OR THAT CONTAINS ONLY SMALL AMOUNTS, A PART OF THE RUBBER SEAL LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER MAY BECOME DRY, AND THE SEAL MAY CURL DURING MOVEMENT OF THE PISTON. IF THIS OCCURS, A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID COULD SLOWLY LEAK FROM THE SEAL INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID COULD LEAD TO A CHANGE IN BRAKE PEDAL FEEL AND OVERTIME A DEGRADATION IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

Manufacturer
HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
What Happened
The VSA modulator in your vehicle is a crucial part that helps control your brakes. Over time, air can enter this system while your car is starting up, making the brake pedal feel soft or spongy.
Risk if Unfixed
If you don't get your brakes serviced regularly, air can build up in the system, making it harder to press the brake pedal. This could lead to a crash if you need to stop quickly.
Free Fix
Your Honda dealer will fix the issue for free by removing any air from your brake system and sealing it to prevent air from getting in. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
HONDA HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 AND 2008 ODYSSEY AND ELEMENT PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 28, 2006 AND AUGUST 21, 2008. AIR CAN ENTER THE VSA MODULAR PUMP DURING AN INITIAL SELF-CHECK PROCESS THAT OCCURS SHORTLY AFTER EACH TIME THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ENOUGH AIR TO ENTER THE SYSTEM TO RESULT IN A BRAKE PEDAL THAT FEELS SOFT OR LOWER TO THE FLOOR.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
IF THE OWNER DOES NOT HAVE ANY BRAKE SERVICE OR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED OVER A PERIOD OF MONTHS OR YEARS, THE SYSTEM CAN CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE ENOUGH AIR TO AFFECT BRAKING PERFORMANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNER AND HONDA DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VSA MODULATOR BY REMOVING ANY EXISTING AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THEN APPLY SEALANT AND CAPS TO PREVENT AIR FROM ENTERING THE BRAKE SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

Manufacturer
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
What Happened
The Vehicle Safety Assist System (VSA) in your 2007-2008 Honda Odyssey is a computerized safety feature that helps you stop your vehicle quickly in emergency situations. However, in some cases, it may apply the brakes unexpectedly, without your input.
Risk if Unfixed
If the VSA system brakes hard without warning, you could lose control of your vehicle, and the brake lights might not illuminate. This could lead to a collision from behind, which could result in injury or damage.
Free Fix
For now, Honda will send you a notification with instructions on how to prevent unexpected braking. Once the necessary parts become available in the spring of 2014, your dealer will install a software update to fix the issue at no cost to you.
