What Happened
The power steering system in your Dodge Journey uses a hose to help turn the wheels when you're driving. In your vehicle, this hose might break when it's cold, which means you'll lose power steering assist.
Risk if Unfixed
If the hose ruptures, you'll need to work harder to steer the car, especially at slow speeds. This could make accidents more likely, especially if you're turning or merging.
Free Fix
Your Chrysler dealer will replace the power steering return hose, steel tube, and power steering oil cooler with new ones, at no cost to you. You'll be notified when it's time to schedule the repair.

Original — What Happened
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured July 31, 2007, to November 12, 2016. After exposure to cold temperatures, the power steering return hose may rupture at engine start-up causing a loss of power steering assist.

A loss of power steering assist may require extra steering effort, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

What Happened
The engine cover in your Dodge Journey is a protective shield that sits on top of your engine. In some 2011-2015 models with the 2.4L engine, it might not be securely attached and could fall off while driving.

If the engine cover comes loose and touches the exhaust manifold, it could cause a fire in your vehicle.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2015 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured July 19, 2010, to May 26, 2015 and equipped with 2.4L engines. In the affected vehicles, the engine cover may detach from the engine and contact the exhaust manifold.

If the displaced engine cover contacts the exhaust manifold, there would be an increased risk of a vehicle fire.

What Happened
The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) in your Dodge Journey is a system that helps you stay in control on slippery roads. It's made up of several parts, including the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module. Water can get into this module through the wiring harness and cause it to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the ABS or ESC fails, your vehicle could become unstable, making it harder to steer, brake, or accelerate. This could increase the risk of a crash, especially on wet or slippery roads.
Free Fix
Your authorized Chrysler dealer will seal the wiring harness to keep water out and replace the ABS module, as well as fix any damaged wiring in the headlamp and dash area. This repair is free of charge, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.

In the affected vehicles, water may enter the wiring harness for the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module and leak into the module, disabling the ABS and/or the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.
