Component
ENGINE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The engine control system in your vehicle is like the brain of your car. It helps control the engine and other systems, including your brakes. In certain 2020 and 2021 models, this system may not work correctly when you start the engine.
Risk if Unfixed
If the engine control system fails, you could lose the assist that helps your car slow down or stop smoothly. This could make it harder to control your vehicle, especially on slippery roads, and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the engine control software, which is free of charge. You should schedule the update as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.
