What Happened
Your X3's steering system is made up of several parts that work together to help you steer. The steering spindle is a critical link that connects your steering column to your wheels.
Risk if Unfixed
If the steering spindle is not attached correctly, you could lose control of your vehicle's steering, which could lead to a crash. This could happen suddenly and without warning, making it hard to steer your car safely.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the connection between your steering spindle and column and replace any faulty parts or the entire spindle and column if needed – all for free. You'll get a recall notice in the mail, and you can call BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 if you have any questions.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024-2026 X3 sDrive30i, X3 30 xDrive, and X3 M50 xDrive vehicles. The steering spindle may have been incorrectly attached to the steering column.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
An incorrectly attached steering spindle can lead to a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will inspect the steering connection and replace hardware or replace the spindle and column, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 2, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning October 2, 2026.

STEERING:STEERING CONTROL MODULE

What Happened
The steering control module in your X3 is like the brain of the steering system. It helps you turn the wheels when you want to. In some 2025-2026 models, this module can cause the steering wheel to move unexpectedly while the car is parked.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens while your car is stationary, you could be injured by the unexpected steering wheel movement. On the road, it could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the steering system software, free of charge, either by sending it to your vehicle remotely or by doing it in-person. You'll get a letter with more details and should contact BMW if you have any questions or concerns.

BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2025-2026 X3 vehicles. While the vehicle is stationary, unexpected steering wheel movement (rotation) may occur.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Unintended steering wheel movement while the vehicle is stationary increases the risk of an injury and on the road, a crash.

The steering system software will be updated, free of charge, either over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer. Owner notification letters were mailed February 6, 2026.
