What Happened
The automatic locking retractor in your vehicle's seat belt is a safety mechanism that helps keep your child secure in their car seat. In certain models, this part can malfunction and stop working too early, preventing your child's seat from being properly secured.
Risk if Unfixed
If the retractor fails, the child restraint system won't work as it should, which can put your child at risk of serious injury in the event of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will inspect and replace the seat belt assembly if necessary, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2021 XC40, XC 40 Recharge, V60CC, V90, V90CC, XC90, and 2021-2022 V60, XC60, S60 vehicles. The seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
