What Happened
The steering gear tie rod in your vehicle helps connect the steering wheel to the wheels. In your 2019-2020 BMW or Toyota, the tie rod could be damaged by extreme temperatures or rough roads, which could cause it to break.
Risk if Unfixed
If the tie rod breaks while you're driving, your vehicle may lose steering control, making it harder to steer and increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the steering gear tie rod with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019 Z4 sDrive30i, 2019-2020 330i xDrive, M340i and M340i xDrive, 2020 X3M and X4M, and Toyota Supra vehicles. In certain driving conditions, such as high temperatures and rough road surfaces, a steering gear tie rod may become damaged, possibly resulting in a fractured tie rod.

What Happened
The counterbalance shaft in your engine helps balance the rotation of the crankshaft. In some 2019-2020 330i, 330i xDrive, and Z4 models, the needle roller bearings that hold it in place were installed incorrectly, which could cause the shaft to come loose.
Risk if Unfixed
If the counterbalance shaft loosens, your engine could suffer severe damage. This could lead to costly repairs, or even leave you stranded on the side of the road, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the entire engine with a new one, at no cost to you. This is a free repair, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.

The receiver audio module in your vehicle controls the sound system and also reminds you to buckle up with an audible chime. In some 2019-2022 models, this system might not work correctly, so you might not hear the seat belt warning.
Risk if Unfixed
If you don't hear the seat belt warning, you might not fasten your seat belt, which increases the risk of injury in a crash. This is a serious safety issue that could put you at risk of getting hurt.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, and 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe vehicles. The receiver audio module control unit software may fail to properly generate audible seat belt warnings to the driver to fasten their seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
