What Happened
The receiver audio module in your vehicle is a computer that tells you if your seat belt is fastened. In some 2019-2022 3-series and 4-series BMWs, this module's software might not remind you to buckle up, which is a critical safety feature.
Risk if Unfixed
If the warning doesn't sound, you might not know if your seat belt is fastened, which could put you at risk of injury in a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the receiver audio module's software to ensure the seat belt warning sounds correctly, and this repair is free. You should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, and 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe vehicles. The receiver audio module control unit software may fail to properly generate audible seat belt warnings to the driver to fasten their seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

If a crash happens and your seat belt retractor fails, you could be at risk of serious injury. The belt might not keep you securely in place, which could lead to more harm than necessary.

The engine starter relay in your vehicle is a small but crucial part that helps your car start. In some 2019-2022 models, this relay can corrode and overheat, causing a serious problem.

If the relay overheats, it could catch fire, which could spread to other parts of your vehicle. This is a serious risk that could lead to a fire in your car.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty starter relay with a new one, at no cost to you. In the meantime, please park your vehicle outside and away from flammable materials.

Your vehicle's rearview camera helps you see what's behind you when you're reversing. In some cases, the image on the screen may be partially blocked or not turn on at all when you shift into reverse.
Risk if Unfixed
If you rely solely on the rearview camera and can't see the area behind your vehicle, you could miss something or someone that's there, which increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Your BMW dealer will update the rearview camera software to ensure you get a clear view when reversing, all at no cost to you. You'll get a notification when the repair is ready, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.
