What Happened
The front control arms in your vehicle are the metal rods that connect the steering wheel to the front wheels. They might not have been made correctly, which means they could come loose over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the control arm comes loose, your steering could feel loose or wobbly, making it harder to control the vehicle. This condition could eventually cause the control arm to separate from the spindle, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your Volvo dealer will replace the nut that secures the control arm with a new, improved one at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible, especially if you notice any unusual steering issues.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FRONT CONTROL ARMS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED CORRECTLY AND, AS A RESULT, THE STUD AND NUT THAT SECURE THE ARM TO THE SPINDLE MAY LOSE THEIR INITIAL AXIAL TENSION. UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE STEERING MAY BECOME LESS RESPONSIVE AND THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE STEERING WHEEL PLAY.

THIS DRIVING CONDITION COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO SEPARATION BETWEEN THE FRONT CONTROL ARM AND THE SPINDLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
