Component

STEERING

Manufacturer
TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
What Happened
The steering lock bar is a critical part in your Avalon that helps secure the steering wheel when you lock the doors. Unfortunately, some 2000-2004 models were made with a flawed design that could cause a tiny crack to form on the lock bar over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the lock bar breaks, the steering wheel could lock up, and you'd lose control of your vehicle. This makes it much harder to steer, which increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Toyota dealer will replace the faulty steering interlock device with a new one at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you can, and it's completely free.

Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STEERING INTERLOCK DEVICE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

What Happened
The air bag control module in your vehicle is a critical computer that helps control the air bags and seatbelt pretensioners. Over time, electrical noise can cause this module to fail and deploy the air bags and seatbelt pretensioners without warning.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bags and seatbelt pretensioners deploy on their own while you're driving, you could be seriously injured or even crash. This is a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the faulty air bag control module with a new one at no cost to you. This is a free repair, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.
