What Happened
The fuel tank in your vehicle is the big container that holds the gasoline. In some cases, if a sharp object is kicked up by a tire and hits the tank, it could puncture it.
Risk if Unfixed
If the tank is punctured, it could cause a fire. This is a serious safety issue because a fire in your vehicle could spread quickly and put you at risk.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will install protective shields in front of the fuel tank to prevent damage. This repair is completely free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE FUEL TANK, IN THE EVENT THAT A VEHICLE FRONT TIRE RUNS OVER A SMALL, SHARP OBJECT IN THE ROAD, CATCHES IT AND PROPELS IT TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, IT MAY STRIKE AND PUNCTURE THE FUEL TANK.
