What Happened
The intake air ducts in your Murano are like flexible tubes that direct air into your engine. Over time, these ducts can shrink and separate from the resonator, which could cause problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If the ducts separate, your engine may stall while you're driving, which could lead to a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will inspect and fix or replace the affected parts free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
NISSAN IS RECALLING 362,891 MY 2003-2007 MURANO VEHICLES. THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS, WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE INTERMEDIATE RESONATOR IN THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM OF THE ENGINE, MAY SEPARATE FROM THE RESONATOR WITH ENGINE MOVEMENT. THIS SEPARATION OCCURS DUE TO THE PREMATURE AGING OF THE MATERIAL USED IN THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS WHICH CAUSES EXCESSIVE SHRINKING.

What Happened
Your vehicle's anti-theft device may not work properly, which could allow the steering wheel to lock unexpectedly.
Risk if Unfixed
If you turn the key to the 'off' position while the transmission is not in 'park', the steering wheel could lock when you turn it to the right, which could make it difficult to steer the vehicle.
Free Fix
The dealership will inspect and replace the steering wheel lock assembly at no cost to you, and the recall started on December 18, 2006.

CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 114, "THEFT PROTECTION." DURING AN INSPECTION OF SOME VEHICLES AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED WITH THE IGNITION KNOB IN THE "OFF" POSITION BUT THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION NOT BEING IN THE "PARK" POSITION.

The alternator in your vehicle is what charges your battery while the engine is running. There's a chance that a wire inside the alternator could break, stopping the battery from charging.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens while you're driving, the battery warning light and brake warning light will come on, and your engine will start to slow down on its own to prevent a collision. This could cause your engine to stall, making it hard to control your vehicle.
Free Fix
Your Nissan dealer will inspect and replace the alternator with a new one that's designed to prevent this problem from happening again – at no cost to you. Just schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
