Component

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Manufacturer
MAZDA MOTOR CORP
What Happened
The evaporative canister on your Mazda6 is a part that helps manage fuel vapors. Unfortunately, a type of spider can get into the canister's vent line and cause a problem.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, the fuel tank pressure could drop too low, causing the tank to crack and potentially leak fuel. This could lead to a fire, which is a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your Mazda dealer will clean out the canister vent line, put in a spring to keep spiders out, and do it all for free. Just wait for the recall notice and schedule the repair.

Original — What Happened
MAZDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 MAZDA6 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 8, 2008, THROUGH FEBRUARY 8, 2010. A CERTAIN TYPE OF SPIDER MAY WEAVE A WEB IN THE EVAPORATIVE CANISTER VENT LINE AND THIS MAY CAUSE A RESTRICTION IN THE LINE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FUEL TANK PRESSURE MAY BECOME EXCESSIVELY NEGATIVE WHEN THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WORKS TO PURGE THE VAPORS FROM THE CANISTER.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
AS THE CANISTER IS PURGED REPEATEDLY DURING NORMAL OPERATION, THE STRESS ON THE FUEL TANK MAY EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A CRACK, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO FUEL LEAKAGE AD AN INCREASED RISK OF FIRE.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND CLEAN UP THE CANISTER VENT LINE, AND INSTALL A SPRING TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF SPIDER FROM ENTERING THE VENT LINE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE MARCH 25, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MAZDA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-222-5500.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM

Manufacturer
Mazda North American Operations
What Happened
The front control arm on your Mazda6 is a metal piece that helps steer your vehicle. In certain 2009-2010 models, the part under it can corrode from road salt and weaken over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the mounting point for your passenger side control arm corrodes, it could cause your vehicle's steering to pull to one side, making it harder to control. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mazda dealer will inspect the underside of your vehicle and either apply a protective coating or replace the front cross member with a new, rust-resistant one – all at no cost to you. You should contact your dealer to schedule the inspection and repair.
