Component

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)

Manufacturer
HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
What Happened
The transmission control module in your vehicle helps your gears shift smoothly. In some 2005-2010 Accords, CR-Vs, and Elements, the outer ring of a small bearing inside the transmission can break, causing problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you could experience a short circuit that makes your engine stall, or broken metal pieces could get stuck in the parking pawl, causing your vehicle to roll when you think it's in park, which increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Free Fix
Your Honda dealer will update the transmission control module software for free, which should fix the problem and prevent any issues. Don't worry, this repair is on the house, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
Original — Remedy
HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

What Happened
The passenger airbag in your vehicle is designed to protect you in a crash. However, in some 2006-2015 models, the inflator that makes the airbag deploy could rupture and explode, sending sharp pieces flying.

Free Fix
Your Honda dealer will replace the faulty airbag inflator with a new one, completely free of charge. When you receive the recall notice, schedule the repair to ensure your safety on the road.
